Wagner Figueiredo de Lima was a 34-year-old cowboy and civil servant from Paraiba, Brazil. He was inseparable from his beloved horse Sereno, who he owned for eight years.

Tragically, Lima died on New Year's Day from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident, according to El Globo. Two days later, he was buried in the city of Cajazeiras. His family and friends made sure Sereno was in attendance.

At the service, something remarkable happen. A visibly distraught Sereno gently touched his head against the side of Lima's coffin, and whined and sighed as a sort of goodbye to his beloved owner. Attendees were shocked at the horse's earnest show of emotion.
